Bridging the Gap in Indonesia’s Creative Education: Kisai Entertainment and YLAB Academy Launch Indonesia’s First Webtoon Academy

Jakarta, Kisaient.comIndonesia’s comic and creative industries have long struggled with challenges in education and mentorship. Formal learning opportunities, especially in comics and webtoons, are limited. For many, drawing is still seen as a hobby rather than a viable career. As a result, aspiring creators often find themselves without proper guidance, lacking the skills and training needed to turn their passion into a profession.

Recognizing this gap, Kisai Entertainment is taking a bold step forward. We are proud to announce our partnership with South Korea’s prestigious YLAB Academy to establish Indonesia’s very first Webtoon Academy. This groundbreaking collaboration is set to equip aspiring webtoon creators with the industry-standard tools and knowledge they need to succeed in the ever-evolving world of digital comics.

YLAB Academy, founded in 2015, has a proven track record of producing professional webtoon creators in South Korea. With over 70 students having already debuted, many of whom are now working on major platforms like Naver Webtoon, YLAB brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this new initiative in Indonesia. By partnering with YLAB, we are introducing a world-class education program tailored to nurture local talent, allowing them to reach their full potential and compete on a global stage.

This is not just an educational initiative; it’s an investment in the future of Indonesia’s creative industry. Over the next five years, we will be committing more than IDR 5 billion to support the growth of 500 professional webtoon creators. Our goal is to provide these talented individuals with the skills and knowledge required to succeed globally, ultimately contributing to an export potential of USD 10 million in creative services over this period.

As Tessa Yadawaputri, our Founder and CEO, highlighted: “Indonesia has immense creative talent, but we know that talent alone isn’t enough. With YLAB Academy, we’re offering aspiring creators the education and insight they need to turn their passion into a profession. This partnership represents our commitment to developing a strong future for Indonesia’s webtoon industry.”

YLAB Academy’s CEO, Kim Daewook, echoed this sentiment: “When I considered expanding YLAB Academy to other regions, I met Kisai. Their passion for webtoons was undeniable. Though it was a tough decision to partner with a country outside of Korea, we believe that, together with Kisai, we can achieve great things.”

Through this collaborative vision, we are determined to create a thriving ecosystem for Indonesian creators. The Webtoon Academy, launching in 2025, will offer a comprehensive curriculum developed by YLAB Academy, covering everything from storytelling techniques to production methods. Students will also benefit from mentorship by professionals who have achieved success in the global market, ensuring they gain the skills necessary to make a real impact.

The launch of this academy marks a new era for Indonesia’s creative industry. It’s a step toward empowering our talented creators and ensuring they have the support needed to succeed on the world stage. We’re excited to welcome the next generation of webtoon creators and to witness the incredible stories they will bring to life.

This is just the beginning. Together with YLAB Academy, we are committed to making Indonesia a hub for world-class webtoon talent.

See you in 2025!
