Jakarta, Kisaient.com – After a fantastic run in Bandung, the W-TOON CAMP Around Indonesia continued its journey to two equally exciting cities: Makassar and Medan. Let’s look into the fun and creativity of these two editions!
Makassar: A Deep Dive into Character Design
On July 19, 2024, W-TOON CAMP landed in Makassar and was immediately met with incredible enthusiasm! The first session was held at Universitas Ciputra (UC) Makassar, where participants, including students from the digital illustration program and other fields of interest, were eager to learn directly from the Kisai team. In this session, we covered a lot of exciting topics about the world of webtoons and its production techniques.
The following day (July 20, 2024), we held an open session that attracted even more participants, including local webtoon enthusiasts. Here, participants had the opportunity to receive portfolio reviews directly from Kisai mentors, a golden chance for those who want to delve deeper into the world of webtoons. What made this event even more unique was the participation of attendees from outside Makassar! Some traveled all the way from Palopo just to join W-TOON CAMP. Our partnership with Universitas Ciputra Makassar also played a significant role in the success of the event. Not only did the university provide a fantastic venue, but their students also actively participated as volunteers, highlighting the strong collaboration between educational institutions and the creative industry.
Medan: Mastering the Art of Storyboarding
Just a few weeks later, on August 24, 2024, W-TOON CAMP was set up in Medan. As usual, the day before the main event, we visited a local educational institution – this time, SMK Yayasan Iskandar Muda Medan. The students were incredibly enthusiastic and eager to learn, they weren’t shy to ask questions and try out tips and tricks from the mentors. Some even created storyboards with super creative comedy concepts!
The main event in Medan at Cradle Co-Working Space focused on storyboarding, teaching participants the key elements of creating engaging webtoon panels, from angles and shots to fonts and bubble types. In Medan, long-time Kisai creator Sumaja also made a special appearance as a participant, sharing invaluable insights on working both in a studio setting and as an independent artist. Sumaja’s experience added a rich perspective for all participants.
More Than Just Training: Collaboration and New Opportunities!
The W-TOON CAMP events in Makassar and Medan were truly unique, thanks to the exceptional local support and collaboration. In Medan, participants enjoyed an exclusive 3-month trial access to Clip Studio Paint EX – an incredible opportunity that promises to be highly beneficial!
We’re thrilled to have shared knowledge, experiences, and to have connected more deeply with the creative communities in both cities. These events were more than just learning sessions; they were about building a vibrant community of passionate creators. Seeing the participants’ dedication and creativity was truly inspiring.
A big thank you to Universitas Ciputra in Makassar and SMK Yayasan Iskandar Muda Medan for their warm welcome, and to all the participants who made these events memorable. We’re excited to continue this journey and bring W-TOON CAMP to even more cities!
