W-TOON Camp Writers Edition is Going on Tour! First Stop: Bandung Recap

Bandung, Kisaient.com – March 8, 2025 – W-TOON Camp Writers Edition is officially on the move, bringing a new experience for webtoon writers across Indonesia. The first stop in Bandung just wrapped up! Despite many participants fasting for Ramadan, the energy stayed high from morning till evening—proving just how passionate webtoon writers truly are.

The day started with an introduction to KY Academy and a broader look at the webtoon industry. Then, we jumped straight into the storytelling fundamentals: premise, logline, and synopsis. After breaking them down with explanations and real examples, it was time for participants to put their skills into action. The focus was on practical learning, making sure everyone had a chance to apply what they had just learned.

The next challenge was all about how writing works inside panels. They explored how to script for webtoons and got a peek into basic storyboarding techniques. To apply what they had learned, they first filled in dialogue for pre-made panels before moving on to creating their own. The creative process wasn’t always easy, but the excitement in the room never faded. Some participants shared that they never realized how much detail goes into each panel until they had to craft their own. Seeing webtoons from the writer’s perspective gave them a completely new appreciation for the art form.

In the afternoon, five selected participants had the opportunity to pitch their stories and receive direct feedback from mentors. After speaking with them, many shared surprising insights. Some realized their main character’s motivation wasn’t strong enough, making the stakes feel weak. Others discovered their character relationships needed more depth to truly connect with readers. One writer admitted that their world-building needed more consistency after noticing how mismatched elements made the setting feel unclear.

It was a long day, from 9 AM to 5 PM, but no one seemed to mind. The passion for storytelling kept everyone engaged, and even during the pitching session, which wasn’t mandatory, most participants chose to stay and watch. As the day came to a close, it was clear that this wasn’t just about learning—it was about being in a space filled with people who share the same love for writing.

And this is just the beginning. Next stop: Yogyakarta in May! After that, we’re heading to Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bali, so get ready, writers! We can’t wait to meet you! -Kirara-
