Jakarta, Kisaient.com – On October 13th, 2024, Recently, we hosted a Character Drawing Competition at Kisai Expo. This competition welcomes young creators from across Jakarta, aged 12 – 15 to showcase their creativity by designing original characters. Whether it was a superhero or a character from everyday life, the goal was to bring their imagination to life using traditional drawing techniques in just 120 minutes on A3 paper.
Held on October 13, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center, the event attracted 64 young artists, each presenting a unique vision. The beauty of this competition lay not only in the amazing entries but also in the genuine enthusiasm we saw from each participant. These young artists weren’t just drawing; they were expressing dreams, ambitions, and ideas that often remain hidden. Witnessing such talent made us hopeful for the future of Indonesia’s creative industry.
Winners and Prizes
The winners were chosen based on the originality of their designs, drawing technique, character uniqueness, and the emotional depth each piece conveyed. Here’s how we awarded the prizes:
- 1st Place: IDR 1.5 million + Huion Slate tablet
- 2nd Place: IDR 1 million + Huion RTS 300 tablet
- 3rd Place: IDR 800K + Huion RTS 300 tablet
- 4th Place: IDR 600K
- 5th Place: IDR 500K
We had the chance to chat with the 1st and 5th place winners. They both developed their skills by watching tutorials online and practicing on their own. They hadn’t expected to win since it was their first competition, but decided to try anyway. Their courage to compete and challenge themselves, despite self-doubt, shows just how much art can build resilience and a sense of purpose.
A Strong Community Support
One of the best parts of the event was seeing all the support from families, teachers, and friends. Many participants brought their parents along, and some even had teachers cheering them on. We also saw groups of friends entering together, sharing excitement and encouragement. When one of them won, their friends’ joyful reactions—cheering and capturing the moment on video—made it clear how much this meant to them all. This level of support reflects a shift in the way art is perceived; it’s no longer “just a hobby” but a skill with real potential. The energy from this event reminds us of the importance of nurturing these young creators, who may one day contribute to fields like webtoons, comics, and animation.
We’re excited about the future and committed to offering more opportunities for young artists. The Character Drawing Competition wasn’t just about winning, it was a step forward in building confidence, encouraging creativity, and showing these kids that their passion is worth pursuing. We look forward to seeing how these young talents continue to grow and can’t wait to be part of their journey!
